In early 2006, we purchased 2 1968 Travco motorhomes to convert into Brinkmobiles. We attacked this project in 3 phases:

PHASE ONE) complete restoration and overhaul of the engines and drivetrains... The goal is to have well running and dependable vehicles.

PHASE TWO) complete restoration and redesign of the interior and exterior aesthetics (including period upholsteries and carpets)... We are interested in preserving the mid century modern vibe and celebrating the vintage travel experience.

PHASE THREE) upgrade of the living and technological systems (including the kitchen, bathroom and the audio/video/internet systems... We want the most modern accessories available, including solar panels to keep the DC systems charged and flat screen televisions to give previews of our products and GPS to show where they are on our BrinkMobile map.

We are just about completed with PHASE ONE for both vehicles and have started in on PHASE TWO with Brinkmobile #1.

We hope to be done within 8 weeks with both of them. We will post pictures and notes here.

NOTES:

BrinkMobile #1 has a Dodge 318 and is probably a bit underpowerd. Neverless, our fearless mechanic Allison May has lovingly replaced the water, fuel, and steering pumps, installed a more advanced electronic ignition distributor, new plugs and wires and a rebuilt Carter BBR carburetor (the most mis-spelled word on EBay.

Brinkmobile #2 has a Dodge 440 and will have enough power to run a in-dash airconditioner (without having to run the generator). We have simultaneously been working on both vehicles. We have replaced water, fuel, and steering pumps, installed a more advanced electronic ignition distributor, new plugs and wires and a rebuilt Carter Thermoquad carburetor. We shall see which motorhome is the most economical to drive. Someday if we have enough money we will install cummins diesel engines in them and run them on bio-diesel.
